Food insecurity in a nutshell is not knowing where your next meal is coming from. It affects adults, children, families, elders and communities. Food insecurity has been a problem in the US for many years, however the past 7 months of 2020 have increased the numbers of Americans who feel food insecure.
We as school nutrition professionals see it every day. The child who has only a bag of chips in his lunch box. The girl who waits near the share table to snag an apple, a milk or something else. The sibling group who sees you every day at breakfast and lunch. Yeah we see them, we know them and we worry what will happen to them. Have you ever wondered what you can do to help? I have. And this is my way of fighting food insecurity one less hungry belly at a time.
